The Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) was founded in flight, as is still in evidence by the car’s smooth handling and quiet ride. BMW produced the first inline-six liquid-cooled engine of 1918, which allowed airplanes to fly at greater altitudes. By the late 1920s, BMW expanded its product line to include motorcycles. It expanded again in the 1950s with the introduction of a line of automobiles.

The BMW 2002, produced in the late 1960s marked the Bavarian company’s first foray into the American market. Sleek and small, the BMW 2002 was the ultimate sports car. The car also featured comfortable seating for four, as would a sedan. America fell in love with this new hybrid “sports sedan”. By the late 1970s, BMW expanded its line once again to introduce the “3 Series” sedans. The new design featured a consoled that was angled towards the driver, a feature that the company retained in later designs. These sedans quickly became the company’s best-selling automobile. BMW added a full electronics package in the 1980s. The 1990s saw the introduction of a “Z-axle” multilink suspension and variable valve timing. By 1999, BMW developed its steptronic manumatic transmission, which combined the sports-car feeling of shifting gears with convenience of automatic transmission. All-wheel drive was introduced in 2001. The year 2005 saw many changes to the BMW line, including a retractable hard top convertible and re-vamped engines ranging from a naturally aspirated inline-6 to a twin turbo inline-6. Active cruise control and active steering add to the owner’s driving experience.

The International Council of BMW Clubs is comprised of three regional sections – Europe, America, and Asia-Pacific-Africa. Each region contains numerous local BMW Car Clubs. The BMW Car Club of the Philippines was founded in 2001 to provide BME enthusiasts the opportunity to gather, discuss their cars, discuss features, and drive. From a membership of only five at its inception, the BMW Car Club of the Philippines has grown to more than one hundred members.

The Club now offers a number of services to its members. It hosts touring activities, and classes on safe driving. The Club’s website features information regarding upcoming events, news clips, opinion columns, service and maintenance tips, and classified advertisements for BMW cars and car parts. Club members enjoy discounts on select BMW merchandise and a worldwide network in which to find rare replacement parts. The Club’s website is an excellent place for BMW enthusiasts throughout the Philippines to gather and chat about the loves of their lives – their BMWs. For enthusiasts who like to tinker with their toys, the BMW Car Club of the Philippines hosts a complete collection of manuals, guides, and other authorized publications.
